Baby Mouse Cupcake Tycoon Book Review

Title: Baby Mouse Cupcake Tycoon
Author: Jennifer L. Holm & Matthew Holm
Illustrator: Jennifer L. Holm & Matthew Holm
Age of Reviewer: almost 10 Years Old

Favorite Character:
I like Baby Mouse because she is funny and she has problems in school that she tries to figure out.  The other character I like is the narrator which is always talking about what's happening around Baby Mouse.  Sometimes the narrator is funny.

Why I liked this book:
I liked it when Baby Mouse has fund raiser and sells cupcakes and isn't doing super good at it.  She tries to figure out good ways to sell cupcakes, and there's this mean girl named Felicia and she has all these things to sell cupcakes, so Baby Mouse tries to make posters and stuff for selling cupcakes.  But then she does a corner cupcake stand and she has a slogan that says "one cupcake = one book" and she ended up selling the most cupcakes.

Why I didn't like this book:
I liked all of it.

Stink the Incredible Shrinking Kid Book Review

Title: Stink the Incredible Shrinking Kid
Author: Megan McDonald
Illustrator: Peter H. Reynolds
Age of Reviewer: 8 Years Old

Favorite Character:
My favorite character was Stink because he worried a lot about shrinking and their class pet (which was a lizard).  When he worried it made the story more interesting.

Why I liked this book:
I read this book two times because it was funny.  The funniest part was when he got a funny mirror for James Madison Day and he looked at the Abraham Lincoln side he thought he had grown taller.

Why I didn't like this book:
I wish there was more comics in it, because I really like the comics that Stink draws.

Dead Time Book Review

Title: Dead Time
Author: Anne Cassidy
Age of Reviewer: Mom

Favorite Character:
Rose Smith was an interesting character.  I liked that she wasn't the typical empty-headed teen type, or that she unrealistically had friends despite her inclusive behavior.  She's actually kind of broken because of her past (I find semi-broken people refreshing).  Yet she seemed relate-able enough, and I found myself really liking her despite her flaws.

Why I liked this book:
This book comes from the UK, and being from the US I liked the references and slang that I'm not used to.  I also really appreciated that the book was exceptionally clean (no cussing or sex).  I enjoyed the plot because it was involved and at certain times I would had theories about characters or different developments, and many times I found myself to be completely wrong.  I liked being wrong - it's no fun when things are too predictable.

Why I didn't like this book:
The storyline lagged a little bit here and there, so if you have a teen with a really short attention span this may not be for them.  It just wasn't one of those books that I had to finish right away, however it did keep me interested enough to keep reading and I'll probably try the next book in the series.
